Bearsted Woodland (near Maidstone)

As little hidden gems go, this is a beaut!

Up from the lovely Bearsted village green and down a path by Holy Cross Church is a woodland adventure.

Once you get to the car park you can either go right and head along by the tennis courts and take the entrance on the left or head straight towards the church and you’re right into the walk.

There is some shade on a hot day and acres of space to run about and play ball. It is looked after by the Bearsted Woodland Trust and there is lots to do, there’s even a little maze and a bit of water to cool down.

Byron rating: four paws out of five. It can be a long or short walk and you never do the same walk twice.

Oscar rating: three paws out of five. Some bits are a little steep and although I can cool down with a dip in the river, I can’t have a proper swim*

7/10 – a great walk and if you get the train to Bearsted there are certainly plenty of facilities in the village to make a whole day of the walk.
