Stanton is a lovely little village and home to Maple Cottage which is a great base to explore Suffolk and Norfolk.
We stayed for a weekend and discovered lots of walks but our favourite was Knettishall Heath Country Park. It is so vast and lush, we could have spent all our time there. There is both free and parking for £1 but it is worth noting there are no refreshment facilities and the toilets are closed during the winter months, opening again in April.
Back to the cottage and for two people and two dogs it was ideal. When looking for a cottage I always worry about the garden but Maple Cottage is completely and safely fenced in. It also boasts two gardens which were ample for the boys to run around and the summer house was a great addition for us to enjoy the spring sunshine.
Parking is no problem and it is on a quiet lane. It is quite cosy but has everything you’ll need and is a real home from home and the owners are just next door in case you have any questions. They have prepared lots of literature so you’ll have everything you need to plan your stay.
Behind the cottage there is a little stretch which takes in St John’s church. It is a beautiful building and worthy of a visit. Stanton has everything you’ll need including a general store, post office, bakers, hairdresser and a pub that does food. Getting the Sunday papers should have been a five minute walk but we ambled around finding little pathways, parks and lanes and eventually made it back for breakfast!
